Normal opening times of restaurants are lunch from 12/12.30–2/3pm, dinner 7.30/8–10pm or even later in main resorts. Expect to pay €1.50–€5 cover charge and in some restaurants a service charge of 10–15 percent.

The cold cuts will come with bread, extra-virgin olive oil (Lake Garda produces the best) and perhaps with mostarda de Cremona, which is fruit pickled in a mustard sauce. Around Lake Como, restaurant menus may feature missoltini or missultitt, sun-dried salted shad which is lightly grilled and served with oil and vinegar.
